The HTL 'Seasnake' is a solution which eliminates the need for any divers being present when a Fastlok connection is released. This removes the possibility of any subsea gas release becoming fatal, making these processes much safer.
The customer came to us with a problem involving a pump assembly. The large bolts were not evenly spaced and the requirement was to react off the next nut. The strengthening ribs made this difficult and meant the job required a custom curved reaction arm.
The customer had a problem reacting on this application. The original idea was to react off one of the other socket head bolts but the socket would twist off the job when torqued up to full torque. After a few concept designs the best solution was reacting through a hole in the ring which was being tightened. The reaction arm could slide up and down to enable the tool to tighten all 3 bolts.
We were presented a problem where the customer could not get a hold of the cylinder they required with a small time window to complete the job. HTL were able to source a hydraulic cylinder at short notice but the dimensions were different.
This subsea problem was to shut off a valve and remove the cylindrical sleeve surrounding it. There were three steps to this job. First a reaction frame had to be connected to the flange. A pneumatic continuous rotation tool was adapted with a hydraulic motor to enable use subsea to tighten the frame into place.
A large flask lid needed to be securely fastened in place and the reaction point recommended by the manufacturers was further than a standard reaction arm. The flask was also quite high up from the operator which meant the tool could not be controlled via the trigger.
